Essentials For A Summer Road Trip

Summer is the perfect time of year to head out on a family road trip. Nothing feels quite so freeing as hitting the open road and visiting some new places. Here are a few road trip essentials you should bring with you so you’re prepared for just about everything.

Spare Tire

A flat tire can easily ruin your road trip if you’re not properly prepared. Make sure your car is equipped with a spare tire that is properly inflated and in good condition. You also need to make sure you know how to change it yourself so you don’t have to wait for a tow truck and spend less time on the open road.

    Car Emergency Equipment

    Along with your tire changing tools, you should have a set of jumper cables, a pair of sturdy gloves, a rope, a flashlight, and road flares. A well-stocked first aid kit is also a necessity.

      Legal Documents

      Before you pull out of your driveway, make sure you have your driver’s license, proof of insurance, and vehicle registration ready to go. In addition, if you are doing any international border crossing, have your passports in an easily accessible place in your car, like the center console or a lockable glove box.

        Roadside Assistance

        In the event your car has more trouble than you can handle, roadside assistance can save the day. Many people have access to roadside assistance through their car insurance, cell phone plans, or it may have even come with your car purchase. Save those numbers in your phone and write them down on paper (in case your phone dies and you have to borrow one) so you know who to call if you need some help.

          Snacks

          You need to take care of your car while on a road trip, but you can’t forget about the passengers either. Pack an assortment of road trip snacks to keep everyone energized. Foods like dried fruit, nuts, and jerky are healthy alternatives to candy bars and bags of chips. Don’t forget to stay hydrated with plenty of water, too!
