What Paperwork Do You Need When Buying or Leasing A Car?

When you have made the decision to purchase a new GM vehicle from us at Skinners, you must bring required paperwork with you for your car. To make the purchase or leasing process easier for you, we’ve put together a list of the paperwork you should bring with you when buying or leasing a car.

Your driver’s license

You will be driving your new car off the lot after the purchase process is complete. We need to confirm that you’re a legally registered driver and that you are who you say you are before you are all set. 

    Your trade-in vehicle’s title, registration, and loan account number

    If you trade in your old vehicle, bring along the title for proof of ownership, a copy of your current registrations, and its loan’s account number — if the loan on the vehicle still have leftover payments. 

      Your payment

      Your car payments depends on how you finance your vehicle. If you received a pre-approved loan from a bank or credit union, this can be in the form of a check. For those planning on a loan from the dealership, your down payment can be in the form of a cashier’s check, personal check, or credit card payment. 

        Proof of car insurance

        You legally need car insurance while you’re on the road. You need to ensure you have an insurance policy sorted before you do so. This requires planning ahead, though you can also call your insurance company from the dealership when you know the exact vehicle you plan to get. 

          Documents that prove rebate eligibility

          If you are taking advantage of our GM rebates, such as military or student discounts, bring proof of your eligibility.
